Netflix drops trailer for an adaptation of Elena Ferrante’s ‘The Lying Life of Adults’

Netflix have dropped the first teaser trailer for a forthcoming six-part adaptation of Elena Ferrante’s novel The Lying Life of Adults. The show is set to be one of the big hitters to break in January 2023.

The famed book comes with the following synopsis: “Giovanna’s pretty face is changing, turning ugly, at least so her father thinks. Giovanna, he says, looks more like her Aunt Vittoria every day. But can it be true? Is she really changing? Is she turning into Aunt Vittoria, a woman she hardly knows but whom her mother and father clearly despise? Surely there is a mirror somewhere in which she can see herself as she truly is.”

Continuing: “Giovanna is searching for her reflection in two kindred cities that fear and detest one another: a Naples of the heights, which assumes a mask of refinement, and a Naples of the depths, a place of excess and vulgarity. She moves between both in search of the truth, but neither city seems to offer answers or escape.”

The project has been fittingly helmed by Neapolitan director Edoardo De Angelis who will take the textured plot and bring it to life with Giordana Marengo in the lead role and Valeria Golino starring as her near-mystic auntie.

The mini-series is set to arrive on Netflix globally on January 4th, 2023. They’ll be hoping is vibrant 1990s scenery can ward off some of the January blues for viewers.
