Who survives the ending of new Netflix show ‘Territory’?

Since debuting on Netflix last week, the Australian six-part drama Territory has gripped audiences on the streaming platform. Unsurprisingly, given the context of the series and its neo-Western leanings, Territory features more than a few character deaths over the course of its runtime. As such, it can be easy to lose track of who is alive and who has been killed, as the cast fights for power and ownership within Australia’s Northern Territory.

In fact, Territory sets the tone of the series very early on, beginning with Daniel Lawson being found dead, setting off a chain of events that culminate in an intense power struggle for Marianne Station – the largest cattle station in Australia. The station has been owned by the Lawson family for generations, but the death of Daniel means that Colin Lawson must select a new heir to the lucrative business.

The next obvious heir is Graham Lawson, though he is considered an alcoholic failure. Also in the running are Graham’s wife Emily, who hails from a rival family, or their children, Marshall and Emily. However, the station is also being sought after by a variety of other characters, including billionaire mining mogul Sandra Kirby, Indigenous station owner Nolan Brannock, as well as cattle thieves and barons in the form of Hank Hodge and Campbell Miller.

Those who have already binged the six-part drama series will be all-too aware of the fact that not all characters in Territory make it to the end. Speaking to the brutality and greed of the power struggle, multiple people are knocked off along the way. Perhaps the most brutal killing is that of Susie Lawson – who forms a romantic bond with Sandra’s son, Lachie. Marshall takes issue with Lachie and his relationship with Susie, and soon a fistfight occurs between the pair. After Susie tries to break up the fight, a bull charges at her, killing her instantly.

Another character who does not make it to the end of the series is Rich Petrakis, a troublemaker and friend of Marshall. After Rich gets into a scuffle with Colin Lawson over a safe, he is shot dead.

So, who ends up in control of Marianne Station, the reason for all this bloodshed and death? Well, the finale of the series sees Colin give the keys to Emily and Graham, the most logical option. However, a drifter by the name of Elton then appears with Daniel’s horse, dropping two bullets into the hands of Colin. Ending on a cliffhanger, it is never explained exactly what this means for the ownership battle of the station.

Given the popularity of the series thus far, it is not unimaginable that Netflix would commission another six episodes, which might answer some of the questions poised within that cliffhanger ending. For now, though, you will simply have to watch the show and come up with your own theories on the future of Marianne Station.
