'Stranger Things' producer addresses Eddie return requests

Eddie Munson’s barely been dead for a month and Stranger Things fans are already calling for the character’s return. In fact, a petition has been launched to revive his character for the show’s final season. Sadly, producer Shawn Levy seems pretty sure that Eddie will not return for the much-anticipated final series.

Stranger Things made its glorious return this year with an action-packed fourth series. Fans were treated to the same blend of action, horror and romance, but with the added threat of Vecna – a sentient humanoid monster from the Upside Down.

An essential part of the season’s storyline was the introduction of the Hellfire Club, a Dungeons & Dragons group led by Eddie Munson – played by Joseph Quinn. Throughout the season, Eddie was falsely accused of causing the deaths of Vecna’s victims. Eventually, he is forced to confront the antagonist with Eleven, Mike and the rest of the Hawkins group.

Eddie’s death comes as the result of his decision to lure a swarm of Demobats away from his friends. Having spent the last few days dismissing suggestions that had behaved heroically when confronted with a similar threat, Eddie saves Dustin and the gang from the swarm and dies a hero’s death.

Many fans were left shattered by the character’s death, prompting the launch of a petition to see Eddie revived next season. Shaun Levy doesn’t seem convinced. Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, the producer said:“[Laughs] Oh boy, a lot of people – a lot of people – can’t even handle the thought of a Season 5 without some excuse for Eddie presence. Highly unlikely. Highly unlikely. But we hear you, world. We know. You’re obsessed with Eddie. So were we.”
