'Rugrats' is coming to US Netflix

If you’re in the mood for some childhood nostalgia, Netflix has got you covered. On May 1st, 2023, users in the United States will be able to stream seasons one and two of the beloved children’s cartoon Rugrats.

The animated series was the second Nicktoon, first airing in August 1991. During the following decade, Rugrats became one of Nickelodeon’s most popular shows, earning many awards, such as four Daytime Emmys and even a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Rugrats became Nickelodeon’s most successful output between 1995 and 2001, spawning 172 episodes over 13 years. In 1998, The Rugrats Movie was released alongside a comic strip, turning the show into a franchise. There were even a few spin-offs like Rugrats Pre-School Daze and All Grown Up! that aired in the early 2000s.

Most recently, a Rugrats reboot was created for Paramount+, which began airing in 2021. Some of the original voice cast joined the updated version of the show, such as E.G. Daily, who portrays the main character, Tommy Pickles.

Discussing the appeal of Rugrats for both adults and children, Ashley Rae Spillers, who voices Didi Pickles in the reboot, said (via Popculture.com): “It’s not just a kid show. It’s truly good writing and great people, real artists, all the actors on it are so great. It’s like nothing short of a thrill. I love it.”
