Peace and calm in Ransom Canyon? Huh, well dreamt. Those Texas sunsets might look dreamy, people, but underneath all that golden-hour nonsense, this town is a total mess. Be careful, as old feelings are crawling back in the town of Ransom Canyon. And season two has taken the mess up a notch.

At the centre of the drama are Staten Kirkland, owner of the Double K ranch, and Quinn O’Grady, the woman he has loved for years without ever building a life with her. Season one left them in bits. Quinn took a job in New York, while Staten stayed behind to protect his land. The feelings were still there… Come on, anyone with eyes could see it, but neither of them said enough to make the other stay.

Elsewhere, Ellie thought things with Yancy were finally getting serious, only for Sidney to stroll in and announce she was his wife. His actual wife! Imagine feeling secure, then some woman rocks up with a legal claim. The audacity. Almost impressive, almost.

Six months later, Quinn returns with Oliver, a musician she met in New York. And here is the awkward part: Oliver is lovely. He cares about her, says what he wants and even proposes. A man communicating clearly in Ransom Canyon? Get the flags out. But Quinn still looks at Staten like their story never ended, while Staten looks one conversation away from completely losing the plot. So, who does Quinn choose?

Who does Quinn choose in Ransom Canyon season two?

The answer is Staten. Yep, after two seasons of emotional faffing, they finally get there. Quinn ends things with Oliver before the finale, and it hurts because the poor lad has done nothing wrong. There is no betrayal or secret villain reveal to make it easy. He loves her and wants to stay, but she cannot give him the certainty he deserves. Poor fella walked into a love story that had paused, not finished.

Then Staten makes one last attempt to reach her. Does he arrange a sensible conversation over coffee? Does he heck. He tampers with her car so they end up stranded at a motel. Sir, that is not romance.

Still, the plan works, and during a game of truth or drink, Staten reveals he wrote Quinn a letter before she left for Juilliard. He asked her to meet him at a hunting lodge because he wanted a future with her. Quinn never saw it because her mother, Claire, hid it.

Oh, give over. Quinn spent years thinking Staten let her leave without fighting. Staten believed she read the letter and rejected him. All that heartbreak was built around a rejection that never really happened. Oh, the bane of miscommunication! Claire may have thought she was protecting her daughter, but that was not her choice to make. No wonder Quinn is raging.

Later, Claire gives Quinn a wooden box from Staten containing directions to the same lodge. This time, Quinn gets the message and actually answers it. At the lodge, Staten gives her a key to his ranch and asks her to become part of his life… And she says yes.

So, Quinn ends season two with Staten. Will life suddenly become peaceful? Please. Staten still has trouble around the Double K, and Quinn wants her own music venue. The drama is not packing its bags yet.

But at least the choice is finally theirs. After so much drama, this one seems earned.
