Why you need to be excited for ‘Ransom Canyon’ Season 2
Well then, Netflix has officially confirmed that Ransom Canyon will be back for a second outing this July, whisking viewers once again to the Texas Hill Country for another round of romance and rivalry with a touch of good old-fashioned family drama. Sounds great, doesn’t it? The show was first released a year ago, right about this time, and it did exceptionally well on Netflix.
Created by April Blair, Ransom Canyon is one of those easy-to-get-into modern Western dramas that is all about people and relationships rather than anything over the top. It’s all set in a small Texas town where land and a fair bit of history shape how everyone behaves. It was hardly a surprise that they brought it back.
Ransom Canyon is all about families trying to hold on to their ranches, while relationships tick along or fall apart under pressure. The main characters are Quinn O’Grady and Staten Kirkland, who spend ages circling each other before finally admitting how they feel. And then, just when you think everything is okay, Quinn heads off to New York, leaving Staten behind to deal with his family responsibilities. Meanwhile, Yancy Grey suddenly inherits a ranch, which stirs things up a bit, especially since there are a lot of question marks hanging over his past.
By the end of the first season, quite a few things are left up in the air. Nothing was properly resolved, and it was looking like things might go either way for a lot of characters. But if you love drama, then the show has got enough twists for you in the second season.
What’s the plot of Ransom Canyon Season 2?
The new season will open with Quinn back in town after spending half a year in New York working as a concert pianist. She always intended to return, but time away has a funny way of changing things. At least Netflix has taught us that. Obviously, the communication between her and Staten fell apart during those months because of the long distance. Although there is a fair bit of unresolved tension that now needs sorting out face-to-face.
Staten, for his part, hasn’t had it easy. Losing his role as trustee of the Double K Ranch has forced him to rethink his priorities, particularly after putting so much stock in protecting the land. And now that Quinn’s back on the scene, he has two things to sort: his priorities and his relationship.
Lauren and Lucas are trying to figure things out in their relationship, with a few ups and downs along the way. At the same time, Yancy and Ellie have their own problems to deal with, especially around the ranch and some secrets that haven’t come out yet. Altogether, what’s the main agenda this season is how all these people deal with their personal and relationship problems, since the characters are worried about their future too.
Who’s in the cast and when’s it releasing?
Minka Kelly and Josh Duhamel return as Quinn O’Grady and Staten Kirkland, once again leading the series. Their dynamic remains the emotional backbone of Ransom Canyon, with most drama hinging on how their relationship evolves, especially now that they have a significant amount of time apart. Familiar faces, including Lizzy Greene, Garrett Wareing, Jack Schumacher, and Marianly Tejada are also back in it, keeping things consistent across all the major storylines.
There are a few new faces joining the party as well. Steve Howey is going to play Levi, Staten’s half-brother, and Patricia Clarkson is going to play Quinn’s mother, Claire, which will add some depth to Quinn’s backstory. Ben Robson and Heidi Engerman are also joining the cast.
Ransom Canyon season two is set to premiere globally on Netflix on 23 July. The show is currently getting filmed at Netflix Studios Albuquerque, and it will be interesting to watch the twists and stories unfold this season.
