If you love the Netflix collection of complex family dramas, it’s time to add Queenstown to the lineup, which brings together The Diplomat’s Rufus Sewell and Wednesday’s Frances O’Connor.

Created and written by Chloe Stearns, the upcoming ski drama will require viewers to brave the black diamond slopes of the Remarkable mountain range in Queenstown.

Set against the backdrop of the New Zealand town, Queenstown is an eight-episode family drama co-directed by Glendyn Ivin, whose industry credits include The Lost Flowers of Alice, Penguin Bloom and Roseanne Lang from Avatar: The Last Airbender.

“In Chloe Stearns, we’ve found an extraordinary new voice, and we’re thrilled to have Glendyn Ivin at the helm alongside an exceptional cast,” executive producers Jodi Matterson and Libbie Doherty tell Tudum. “We’re incredibly grateful to Amanda Duthie and the entire Netflix team for backing our vision to help bring what we believe will become audiences’ next obsession.”

Queenstown, the Netflix Original series, opens in the titular New Zealand town’s elite ski scene, telling the story of a wealthy, privileged family and those who work for them, who clash with one another, driven by greed, power, loyalty, and desire. While the eight-episode series is packed with twists and turns that thrive on family dysfunctionality, for those curious about how far along it really is, well, the good news is that it is already in production.

Sewell and O’Connor are confirmed to lead the Queenstown cast, with Alycia Debnam-Carey from Apple Cider Vinegar and Te Kohe Tuhaka from The Convert also set to appear. However, Netflix has yet to pull back the curtains on the remaining cast and the show’s possible release window, meaning spectators will have to hold their horses a little longer for further information.

The cameras are currently rolling for Queenstown in the New Zealand town of the same name. Speaking of which, Netflix Australia and New Zealand Content Director Amanda Duthie said, “Queenstown draws an exceptional team of talent and creatives, surrounded by this breathtaking environment. Shooting our first locally commissioned series here in New Zealand is a huge moment for us.”

Matterson and Doherty executive produce Queenstown for Silent Firework and Runaway Unicorn, respectively. Stearns, Ivin, Jeremy Platt, and Erika North also serve as executive producers alongside Mel Turner, Ricci Swart, Andrew Low, John Hamm, and John Wynn, with Axel Paton co-producing.
