Potential 'Wednesday' and 'Peaky Blinders' spin-offs in the works

Following the success of Wednesday, based on The Addams Family franchise, Netflix is reportedly planning a spin-off show revolving around Uncle Fester.

The streaming service released Wednesday in November 2022, with several episodes directed by Tim Burton. Jenna Ortega, star of X and the new Scream movies, portrays the moody titular character, who is reluctantly sent to a boarding school for outcasts.

The show was an instant success, becoming one of Netflix’s most-watched releases of all time. Subsequently, it was renewed for a second season, which is set to begin production in spring 2024.

Although we don’t know much about season two, Ortega revealed in an interview with Variety that, “We’re ditching any romantic love interest for Wednesday, which is really great.”

However, fans can also get excited about a potential spin-off centring around Fred Armisen’s Uncle Fester, which has been reported by Bloomsberg. Plans for the show are not yet set in stone, but it seems likely that the project could go ahead. If so, Netflix will be able to keep the popular Wednesday franchise going independently from Ortega.

Additionally, Netflix is interested in expanding the Peaky Blinders universe with two spin-off shows. One would follow Polly, whereas the other would skip ahead a few decades. The success of the Netflix Original movie Extraction has also led to reports that the streamer wants to make a television show set in the same world.
