Netflix’s 'Castlevania' sequel gets a release date

After over two years of anticipation, Netflix is finally set to reveal the next instalment of the popular Castlevania franchise. While exact plot details remain secret, we know that Castlevania: Nocturne will take place in 1792 amidst the French Revolution and focus on Richter Belmont.

The predecessor to Nocturne, the original Castlevania series, was the brainchild of Warren Ellis. The highly acclaimed four-season epic, inspired by Konami’s video game, Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse, followed the adventures of Trevor Belmont, Sypha, and Alucard as they fought to protect Wallachia from Dracula and his minions.

In a teaser for the new series, we see a contemplative Belmont as mysterious voices attempt to sway him to their cause. Director Samuel Deats has alluded to including Maria Renard, a young vampire hunter expected to join Richter in his mission.

Kevin Kolde, the mind behind the original Castlevania series, serves as the showrunner for Castlevania: Nocturne. English screenwriter Clive Bradley, known for his work on Trapped, Crossing Lines, and Waking the Dead, is penning the sequel series script.

The recent trailer also hinted at Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades from the original series, sparking speculation that Richard Armitage and Alejandra Reynoso may reprise their roles.

Castlevania: Nocturne will premiere on September 28th.
