Omar Sy was already a huge name in his native France thanks to masterful films like Untouchable, but it was the Netflix series Lupin that truly brought him international acclaim. Now, the star of the show is set to sign an exclusive deal with the streaming service.
Throughout the hit Netflix series, Omar Sy plays a master-thief named Assane, who pulls off heists based on the teachings of the infamous novel Arsène Lupin: Gentleman Burglar.
The show has been a huge hit in its native France, but following the success of season one, it has begun to gather an international audience and scored ever-increasing viewing figures on Netflix. With its high-octane drama, but ineffably stylish production, it is a dream series for fans of the Bond franchise and beyond.
Following its growing global acclaim, Variety has reported that the Sy has signed a multi-year feature film deal with Netflix. The company’s first with a French talent.
“I have experienced Netflix’s collaboration with artists and their passion to bring unique and diverse stories to homes all over the world,” Sy remarked.
Later adding: “[I am] happy to have the opportunity to extend the relationship and look forward to this next step of our journey together.”
Netflix’s director of international film, Gaelle Mareschi, stated: “We look forward to working together with Omar and his team as he grows as a producer and brings more unique stories and voices to Netflix.”
Whilst further details on the deal are scarce, it would appear that Sy is due to star in multiple films for the service as well as continuing his work in the Lupin series.
