Old classic TV shows become chart toppers on Netflix

The famous proverb ‘Old is gold’ is valid for the current viewership data on Netflix UK as old classic British TV shows are taking over Netflix’s expensive Original productions as the most-watched programmes, topping charts.

The 2020 BBC drama The Salisbury Poisonings has become one of the most-watched titles over Christmas in the United Kingdom. The show revolves around the Wiltshire Russian Novichok attacks.

It was in fourth place in December, right after The Witcher and Emily in Paris, some of the most anticipated Netflix originals this year.

Co-writer Declan Lawn said that the show had received its “second life” on Netflix owing to its massive popularity.

Another great example of the same would be the burgeoning popularity of the British family drama Downton Abbey that became a huge hit on Netflix this year. After all, who would not want to bask in the glory, grandeur and manners of aristocratic England yet again?

Ackley Bridge and The Serpent have managed to top the charts as well. Despite the release of several new Originals with grandiose sets and extensive casting choices, it seems like the viewers would rather dedicate time to older classics that they resonate better with.

Period dramas like Downton Abbey, in particular, have received a lot of attention as people probably like escaping current scenarios and taking a look at the socio-political situation in the past.

All in all, it is refreshing and fascinating to see the old British series surface yet again in terms of popularity on Netflix UK!
