‘Oasis’ ending explained: Who kidnapped Celia?
Only Netflix can transform the season of summer getaways into one of nightmares that hold you back from booking your next vacation destination, and that’s exactly what it did with its Spanish mystery thriller, Oasis.
Set in an exclusively high-profile luxury resort complete with VIP amenities, private beaches, and seemingly impenetrable security, the Netflix series, created by Ramón Campos, unfolds primarily in the scenic confines of this titular resort that soon turns claustrophobic in nature.
While the resort is packed with elite guests, Oasis follows Dani, who arrives at the palatial resort with his family, seeking a change of pace in his life and soon befriending Celia, the resort’s owner’s daughter. But two nights into their vacation, Celia mysteriously goes missing, prompting the police to lock down the entire resort with no one allowed to leave until answers are found.
As every staff member and guest turns into a potential suspect, Dani joins forces with Celia’s best friend, Helena, uncovering more inside the nooks and crannies of the place than they could imagine. However, the burning questions are: Is Celia ever found? Who kidnapped her?
What happened to Celia in Oasis?
Oasis, the Spanish mystery thriller, currently streaming on Netflix, starts with Dani partying before flashing back to a scene of a girl desperately trying to shield herself from a hooded entity, but failing miserably. The girl is none other than Celia, who not only works at the luxury resort but also happens to be the owner, Luis’s daughter. The series, then, takes viewers back in time, exactly two days ago, when Dani and his family arrived at Oasis Infinity.
Although his half-sister Sofia quickly warms up to a group of filthy rich youngsters, Dani finds himself in the genuine companionship of Celia, who, in turn, introduces him to her circle of friends. Her best friend, Helena, is clearly not very fond of rich people. However, when Dani pushes off the rich youngsters fooling around them, the friction doesn’t last.
The next morning, when Helena wakes up, she has no memory of what happened last night. Concerned that something definitely feels off, she checks the CCTV footage that shows her exiting the resort’s basement. As the trio break in to check things out, Celia mysteriously goes missing, and Inspector Ortega and Sub Inspector Gines are assigned the case.
Convinced that the cops are not doing enough, Dani and Helena join forces and are soon able to retrieve Celia’s phone from the pool. They also find a series of cigarette buds leading down to the basement, where they believe Celia had been hidden for a while. However, before they can figure out much, the hooded entity traps them inside, though they do make it out alive, escaping through the vents.
But it’s as if the nightmares just don’t end, that their friend, Jaen, is handcuffed on suspicion of selling drugs in Oasis Infinity, prompting Ortega to believe that he must have played a role in the disappearance. Although that might seem like their only convincing lead, Jaen cryptically leads Helena to the terrace, where she ultimately finds enough proof that someone formidable within the resort has been working with the police to smuggle drugs and could just be the ones who abducted Celia.
And the suspicion is actually bang on. It turns out it was Inspector Ortega who had been operating a drug ring with Luis all this time, and when Celia entered the basement, she recognised the necklace belonging to her father. The discovery culminates in a confrontation, which, unfortunately, results in an ill-timed collision with Ortega. Since she certainly knew Celia would spill everything to the police, she kidnapped her and misdirected the investigation.
While Gines was always suspicious of her, the discovery of planted evidence, Celia’s hair, inside his car, confirmed it all. But instead of a direct confrontation, he has been meticulously planning Ortega’s take-down. As for Celia and Helena? The final realisation hits them when they discover the cigarette buds belong to Ortega. Although Ortega plans a final scheme to lure the father and daughter to a cliff to kill them and make it look like murder-suicide, Dani and Helena arrive just in time, not only saving Celia, but also letting Gines end the show for Ortega.
