Netflix is bringing a thriller in ‘The White Lotus’ DNA, and you simply cannot skip

Vacations are supposed to serve as an escape from all the hustle and bustle of reality. But what if the escape turns into a nightmare? If The White Lotus on HBO has taught us anything, it is that tourists are practically one decision away from having their lives upended. While the fans would know what we’re yapping about, it turns out that Netflix reckons the fascination all too well, so this June it’s bringing Oasis to scratch the itch.

Essentially, built on the exact same DNA framework as The White Lotus, Oasis primarily shares the “rich people behaving questionably at a gorgeous, isolated hotel” trope.

Produced by Bambú Producciones, the studio behind Cable Girls and The Asunta Case, the Spanish mystery thriller arrives on June 19th. Akin to The White Lotus, Oasis unfolds at an ultra-exclusive, luxury hotel resort reserved for the wealthiest of tribes.

Packed with private beaches, VIP facilities, and of course, Z-level security, the setting is the perfect pressure cooker for a high-stakes suspense show.

Although both shows lean heavily into a mystery format wrapped in lavishness, The White Lotus usually starts with a dead body to count backwards, whereas Oasis kicks off when the police storm the resort to investigate a mysterious disappearance, locking everyone inside as suspects. Intricately, The White Lotus characters are technically free to leave but are emotionally trapped by their own dysfunction and privilege.

However, Oasis shoulders the responsibility of turning that psychological prison into a physical one. That’s why if you pull back the curtain on both shows, the similarities go way deeper than just the luxury hotel setting and core suspense. The narrative structure, character archetypes, and thematic elements also share the room.

That said, while Oasis captures the same glossy, tense, high-society resort energy, it’s best to expect the unexpected. The Netflix thriller deeply explores the contrast and friction between the entitled, Richie-rich guests and the resort staff who have to clean after them and tolerate their behaviour.

Additionally, since summertime religiously calls for fans of eco-horror thrillers, Oasis probably couldn’t have chosen a better time to enter the chat.

So, in case you’ve been feeling the void of shows that come with pretty vacation looks only to reveal the rotten underneath inside, you know where to book your tickets this summer. But while you’re at it, keep your guards up at all times because Oasis brings a resort that you probably can never leave.
