Netflix’s ‘Dahmer: Monster’ becomes the most-watched debut series

Netflix’s new serial killer series, Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, has become the most-viewed show in a four-week period in the streaming platform’s history. It narrowly misses out on the top spot, which is taken up by Stranger Things 4

Early headlines about viewers finding certain scenes nauseating only furthered people’s curiosity when it came to the show, helping to get it off the ground early. Alongside a burgeoning trend of true crime obsession, this helped to fuel a frenzy about the show.

The series has now topped the top ten most-viewed list for three weeks running. In fact, during one of those weeks, it amassed over 205 million viewing hours. Given that shows often take the top spot with a mere 140 million hours, it shows just how many people have been watching.

Since its release, it has clocked 701.37 million viewing hours, making it the most-watched debut series. It ranks above Bridgerton, which also hit the ground running with very impressive debut numbers.

However, Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story still has a long way to go if it hopes to take the all-time top spot with Stranger Things 4 entertaining us for a whopping 1.35 billion hours in its first 28 days alone.

Netflix are looking to capitalise on the current interest in the killer cannibal by launching a documentary series with video footage. However, the series has received backlash for several families of the victims.
