Netflix’s new serial killer series, Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, has become the most-viewed show in a four-week period in the streaming platform’s history. It narrowly misses out on the top spot, which is taken up by Stranger Things 4.
Early headlines about viewers finding certain scenes nauseating only furthered people’s curiosity when it came to the show, helping to get it off the ground early. Alongside a burgeoning trend of true crime obsession, this helped to fuel a frenzy about the show.
The series has now topped the top ten most-viewed list for three weeks running. In fact, during one of those weeks, it amassed over 205 million viewing hours. Given that shows often take the top spot with a mere 140 million hours, it shows just how many people have been watching.
Since its release, it has clocked 701.37 million viewing hours, making it the most-watched debut series. It ranks above Bridgerton, which also hit the ground running with very impressive debut numbers.
However, Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story still has a long way to go if it hopes to take the all-time top spot with Stranger Things 4 entertaining us for a whopping 1.35 billion hours in its first 28 days alone.
Netflix are looking to capitalise on the current interest in the killer cannibal by launching a documentary series with video footage. However, the series has received backlash for several families of the victims.
