Netflix to stream 'Firedrake the Silver Dragon' in September 2021

When German film Drachenreichter aka Dragon Rider, was released it became quite popular among an audience clamouring for more animation. Netflix has finally managed to acquire global streaming rights to the film. The streamer is set to release the film Firedrake the Silver Dragon on September 10, 2021.

Directed by Tomer Eshed, the film is adapted from Cornelia Funke’s book and follows the adventures of a silver dragon who befriends a young boy and a mountain spirit and journeys together to find the rim of heaven that promises an abode of freedom, happiness and safety for all dragons.

The film had been produced way back in 2017 as a collaboration among German Studio Constantin Film, Cyborn, a Belgian studio, and Rise FX’s South Studios. South Studios is well known for having collaborated with Netflix on a variety of popular projects such as Stranger Things, Stowawaym Fear Street trilogyMidnight Mass, Biohackers etc.

The onset of the coronavirus pandemic hindered the theatrical release of the film.

For the English dub version of the film, several actors have been cast. Freddie Highmore, Felicity Jones, Nonso Anzozie, Thomas Brodie-Sangster and Patrick Stewart, among others, are a part of the principal cast.

Although the film has often received parallels being drawn between itself and How to Train Your Dragon, it is worth checking out as German animation films are not quite in abundance on the platform.
