Watch Mike Flanagan’s Netflix series 'Midnight Mass' teaser trailer

After taking Netflix subscribers by storm with his two back-to-back psychological and spatial horror seriesThe Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor, Mike Flanagan is back with his much anticipated new series Midnight Mass that is set to release on September 24, 2021.

The newly released teaser trailer for the series abounds in haunting imagery, eerie music and a flurry of instances that show that Midnight Mass will probably be even scarier than its predecessors. Crockett Island is plagued with strange occurrences that are not the “act of God”, and Midnight Mass will help us discover why.

Flanagan has done a brilliant job adapting the works of Shirley Jackson and henry James in his previous two ventures. However, this project is an original series that holds a deep and personal meaning to the director and his longtime producing partner, Trevor Macy.

Flanagan is well known for collaborating with the same actors in his ventures, including his wife, Kate Siegel, Rahul Kohli, Henry Thomas. Alex Essoe and Annabeth Gish, besides newer cast members such as Zach Gilford, Hamish Linklater, Rahul Abburi, Matt Biedel, Crystal Balint and more.

The seven-episode limited series is reportedly Flanagan’s “favourite project so far”.

Flanagan posted a letter on his Twitter where he updated his fans regarding the project; he spoke of the darkness at work on Crockett island” that was both “supernatural” and “born of human nature”, reflecting the one that we see in our everyday world.

Flanagan further said that the show would reflect “faith” as “one of the greatest mysteries of human nature” that helps sustain us in the darkest of times and how “in the absence of light and hope, we sing”. Flanagan also admitted that “the ideas at the root of this show scare me to my core”.

Midnight Mass is set in the small Crockett Island where the arrival of the two key figures, a disgraced young man and a new and elusive priest named father, Paul, shakes up the sleepy town. Paul brings with him a lot more than just preachings and sermons as bizarre events begin plaguing the small town that uncovers dark secrets, heighten conflicts and reinstate old rifts and scars. Psychologically and emotionally scarring, the film is set to be a complete rollercoaster ride of horror, madness and frenzy.
