Netflix has finally unveiled the full-length trailer for Sam Esmail’s apocalyptic thriller Leave the World Behind.
Adapted from Rumaan Alam’s 2020 novel, the story begins when a family holiday on Long Island is disrupted by the arrival of two unfamiliar individuals – a father and his daughter. They bring word of a power outage and seek shelter.
As the impending danger becomes more pressing, both families are faced with the task of determining the most effective way to navigate the crisis, all the while confronting their own roles in this deteriorating world.
The film features an ensemble cast including Julia Roberts, Ethan Hawke, Mahershala Ali, Kevin Bacon, Myha’la Herrold, Farrah Mackenzie, and Charlie Evans, with backing from Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground label.
Leave the World Behind represents a notable shift for Higher Ground Productions, which has primarily concentrated on children’s programming, documentaries, and historical dramas.
In the adaptation of Alam’s novel, Esmail skillfully portrays the unease of an unpredictable future, a theme that strongly connects with recent global developments.
The movie is set to hit limited theatres on November 22nd, 2023, and will be available for streaming on Netflix starting December 8th, 2023.
