Netflix drops teaser trailer of 'Leave the World Behind'

Netflix has unveiled the trailer for its upcoming psychological thriller, Leave the World Behind. The film, executive produced by former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground Productions, features Hollywood icons Julia Roberts and Mahershala Ali in leading roles.

Leave the World Behind, directed and produced by Sam Esmail of Mr. Robot fame, is based on Rumaan Alam’s 2020 novel of the same name. This highly anticipated movie, set to make its world premiere at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre on October 25th, 2023, explores a nightmarish scenario during an apocalyptic family vacation on Long Island.

Roberts and Ethan Hawke portray a couple seeking a peaceful weekend getaway with their children. However, their idyllic escape takes a terrifying turn when the owner of the vacation home, played by the talented Mahershala Ali, and his daughter, portrayed by Myha’la Herrold, seek refuge from an unexplained global blackout. As tensions rise and trust wavers, both families must navigate the murky waters of survival.

The film also features Kevin Bacon as a conspiracy-obsessed construction worker, along with Farrah Mackenzie and Charlie Evans as Roberts and Hawke’s children.

Leave the World Behind marks a significant departure for Higher Ground Productions, which has previously focused on children’s programs, documentaries, and historical dramas. In adapting Alam’s novel, director Sam Esmail captures the anxiety of an uncertain future, a theme that resonates strongly with recent global events.

The movie is set to hit limited theatres on November 22nd, 2023, and will be available for streaming on Netflix starting December 8th, 2023.
