Netflix shares first look at 'Young Royals' final season

Netflix has given Young Royals fans their first glimpse at the third and final season of the hit show featuring Edvin Ryding and Omar Rudberg.

The popular Swedish-language series has accrued a global following since it first aired back in 2021, with its explorations of queer romances and break-ups centred around Prince Wilhelm, the Crown Prince of Sweden, played by Ryding.

The show follows Prince Wilhelm’s trials and tribulations as the heir to the throne during his time at a boarding school, where he meets and falls in love with Simon Eriksson, played by Rudberg.

During season two, it becomes unclear whether the two will work things out and achieve their happy ending. Still, by the end, a significant turning point occurs when Wilhelm defies his family and openly discloses his queer relationship to the people of Sweden.

Netflix unveiled a short clip teasing the third season on X (formerly Twitter), which shows the two staring romantically into each others’ eyes. “How did you imagine it would be?” asks Simon, to which Wilhelm replies, “I can show you.”

Netflix confirmed the arrival of a third season last year, in a video showing the school’s students singing their take on the classic Christmas carol’ Twelve Days of Christmas’.

The show’s creator Lisa Ambjörn spoke to GayTimes about the upcoming season: “I’ve always imagined Young Royals being told in three parts, and because of the fans’ dedication to our story, we get to tell the last one.”
