Netflix has shared the first look at Jennifer Lopez in her role as Atlas Sheperd in the upcoming sci-fi flick Atlas.
In an announcement on their Tulum website, the streamer shared: “In last year’s The Mother, Jennifer Lopez fought her demons deep in the Alaskan wilderness. Now, she’s launching into orbit fighting a new foe.”
Atlas follows Lopez’s Shepherd, a “brilliant but misanthropic data analyst with a deep distrust of artificial intelligence”.
As the logline puts it, fans can expect to see Shepherd grapple with: “the one thing she fears most -another AI.”
The sci-fi mind-bender was written by Aron Eli Coleite and Leo Sardarian and directed by Brad Peyton.
“Having the chance to direct Jennifer in the title role of this movie is a dream come true,” Peyton said. “I know she’ll bring the incredible strength, depth and authenticity we’ve all come to admire from her work.”
Lopez will be joined by an ensemble cast, including Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown, Lana Parrilla, Gregory J. Cohan and Mark Strong.
Atlas is expected to arrive on Netflix later this year.
