Netflix set to release 'Squid Game' character Funko Pops

Netflix’s Squid Game has gone on to become the streaming platform’s most popular show and has amassed a huge revenue for the streaming platform.

Directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk, this survival thriller series sees a group of participants fight it out till death for whopping prize money of 45.6 billion Korean won while being under the searing supervision of a panoptic gaze.

A scathing commentary on capitalism, power dynamics, poverty, inequality and inequity, the series has garnered immense critical appreciation and a cult-like following, sparking various trends worldwide and infiltrating all corners of the cultural spectrum

Starring Lee Jung Jae, Park Hae Soo, Jung Ho Yeon and Wi Ha Jun among others in lead roles as intriguing characters with rich backstories, the immense popularity of the show has led to a new line of Funko Pop figurines being introduced.

The streamer has now revealed six new Funko Pops to be released next year in May that fans can pre-order now for only $11.99 each. These Funko Pops include the main leads Gi-hun, Sae-byeok, Oh Il-Nam. Sang-woo, Ali and a masked worker clad in red overalls from the game.

Lee Jung-jae, overwhelmed by the success of the show, expressed his interest in returning for a second season. “Because I’ve received so much love and support from [viewers], of course, I have to play him again if there is a season two,” he shared.

He added, “But at this point, I don’t know anything about how the story is going to turn out, or how the characters are going to change, or if there is going to be any new characters adding to the series.”

Given how ambiguous the ending had been on the show, Gi-hun deserves to return once again, for the sanity of fans. While there is a potential video game in the making besides other merch for the game, take a look at the Funko Pops below:
