Netflix details second season for ‘Money Heist’ spinoff ‘Berlin’

Netflix announced this week that Berlin, the Money Heist spinoff, will return for a second season. “The iconic character, played by Pedro Alonso, will be back with a new heist and more love,” the streaming giant announced on Monday.

For the upcoming season, the original Berlin cast will reunite. This includes Michelle Jenner as Keila, an expert in electronic engineering; Tristán Ulloa as Damián, a philanthropic professor and Berlin’s trusted confidant; Begoña Vargas as Cameron, known for living life on the edge; Julio Peña Fernández as Roi, Berlin’s loyal companion; and Joel Sánchez as Bruce, the fearless action man of the group.

The exciting news comes following the runaway success of the first season. “During its premiere week, Berlin was the most-watched series globally and reached the top ten in 91 countries,” Netflix said in a new statement.

“Since then, it has remained in the top ten for seven consecutive weeks in non-English TV, amassing 348 million hours viewed and 53 million total views. The series is now ranked at number nine among the most-watched non-English language series in the history of Netflix,” it added.

Under the guidance of showrunners Álex Pina and Esther Martínez Lobato, filming for season two will commence in 2025.

Elsewhere, Pina’s TV production company, Vancouver Media, is currently filming El Refugio atómico (The Fallout Shelter) for Netflix. “Imagine that the Third World War is about to break out, and a group of billionaires take refuge in a luxury bunker: Kimera Underground Park,” the official synopsis reads.

“From there, they will watch on screens, in a bewildering spectacle, how the world they knew is collapsing over their heads. And while the situation outside becomes increasingly terrifying, they will enjoy their exclusive little city with a basketball court, restaurant, zen garden, cocktail bar, psychologist’s couch, gym, and spa. That will be the extent of their mythical privilege: adapting to living in a luxury hole, in an underground universe full of enigmas where the unresolved issues of two families affected by a past wound will explode,” it adds.
