This time, Netflix is not waiting to see how season two of The Gentlemen fares, because Guy Ritchie’s crime caper has already been renewed for a third season before the new episodes arrive on September 3rd. Talk about confidence!

Season three will run for eight episodes and is in pre-production, though the scripts have not been finalised and casting is still being worked out. So the rumour mill can keep clattering away, but no new names are confirmed yet.

Ritchie, who created the series and remains involved as writer, director and executive producer, said the show’s ambition has grown and that a third season “felt inevitable”. Netflix seems convinced, renewing the show before audiences get to binge season two.

The renewal news arrived alongside the season two trailer, which finds Eddie (Theo James) far more involved in the business he once wanted nothing to do with.

A year has passed, and Eddie now fancies a stake in Bobby Glass’s empire. So much for the reluctant aristocrat act. That ship has sailed.

His partnership with Susie Glass (Kaya Scodelario) remains the central focus of the series, but the footage suggests the duo is heading into choppier water as the operation pushes into Italy. Bobby’s judgment starts to slip, leaving Eddie and Susie with some difficult choices to make.

James and Scodelario return with Ray Winstone, Daniel Ings, Joely Richardson, Vinnie Jones and Giancarlo Esposito, while Hugh Bonneville, Benjamin Clementine, Benedetta Porcaroli, Chris Eubank Jr and Maya Jama join the season two cast. Ritchie has made sure to pack the frame with faces, but the trailer keeps its eye on who controls things.

Netflix has not revealed a season three release date or plot details, and with those still being worked on, everything is staying under wraps.

What is clear is that The Gentlemen still has plenty of road ahead. Season two has not even been released yet, and Netflix is already betting on another round.
