Netflix renews 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' for two more seasons

Netflix has announced that despite it will renew Avatar: The Last Airbender for two more seasons.

The first series was released last month and was an attempted adaptation of the children’s animation of the same name. It’s not the first time an adaptation of the show has been attempted, as it was previously turned into a feature film directed by M Night Shyamalan, which received a scathing reception.

The new Netflix series did incredibly well, climbing the rankings to number one on the Netflix series list and gaining over 40 million viewers. Subsequently, the streamer said it would be making two more series.

The Last Airbender follows Aang, played by Gordon Cormier. Aang is a young avatar tasked with mastering the four elements: Water, Earth, Fire and Air. By mastering these elements, Aang can bring balance to a world under constant threat by the Fire Nation.

The project is reimagining the Nickelodeon animated series, which ran for three seasons in 2005. The series is a favourite for many, but when Netflix adapted it, it was met with mixed reviews.

Much of the criticism is focused on the shows’ over reliance on CGI and green screen effects. Meanwhile, many other viewers don’t like that they have diverted from the original plot of the Nickelodeon series.

Many fans recommend that anyone new to the series should just watch the original cartoon rather than the Netflix adaptation.

This is a developing story. Details surrounding the release date and updated cast members are yet to be revealed.
