Netflix releases teaser for Jake Gyllenhaal’s 'The Guilty'

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, The Guilty is the upcoming English-language remake of the eponymous Danish feature film, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Ethan Hawke, that is set to release on the streaming platform on October 1, 2021.

Based on a riveting screenplay by The Magnificent Seven’s Nic Pizzolato, Gyllenhaal will be reprising the role of Jakob Cedergren’s in the original, where he plays the demoted police officer Joe Baylor who has been assigned to the 911 call dispatch.

Taking place over the course of a day, Baylor receives a spine-chilling emergency call from a caller who has seemingly been abducted and put in the back of a van. As he tries desperately to help the caller and save her from grave danger, he slowly understands that nothing is what it seems like.

Premiering at the Toronto Film Festival and slated for a limited theatrical release from September 24, 2021, Netflix dropped a teaser yesterday that maps out Gyllenhaal’s silhouette with dialogues from the chilling phone call.

The teaser looks promising, and Gyllenhaal, who is no stranger to thrillers, cue Nightcrawler, Donnie Darko and Velvet Buzzsaw, will most likely put up a stellar performance and live up to the expectations that were set high by the original.
