Everything we know about Netflix’s Jake Gyllenhaal-led 'The Guilty'

Netflix has a list of riveting films slated for release in 2021 and the next few months seem to be more exciting than ever.

From highly-anticipated releases such as Red Notice, Don’t Look Up, Bruised etc. hitting the streamer to live-action adaptations of popular anime show Cowboy Bebop and the upcoming second season of The Witcher making a lot of buzzes. 2021 will probably conclude on a good note courtesy of Netflix. 

The upcoming Netflix original The Guilty is a remake of the eponymous Danish thriller. Created by Antonie Fuqua and starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Ethan Hawke and more, the film will be produced by Gyllenhaal’s Nine Stories Production along with Bold Films by Michael Litvak.

Written by Nic Pizzolato, known for his work on The Magnificent Seven, the film will surely be a riveting watch.

When will The Guilty release on Netflix? 

Netflix has confirmed that The Guilty is set to stream on Netflix on Friday, October 1, 2021. The Guilty will be available for limited theatrical streaming from September 24, 2021. 

What is the story of The Guilty?

A police officer named Joe Baylor is under probation and has been demoted to a dispatch desk. He is assigned to an emergency call from a woman who has allegedly been kidnapped and finds himself at loggerheads due to the call of duty. 

Who are the cast members on The Guilty?

While Netflix has announced the names of most of the cast members, all their assigned roles have not yet been disclosed. 

Jake Gyllenhaal plays the role of Joe Baylor, the protagonist of the film. Famous for his exceptional performance in films like Nightcrawler, Brokeback Mountain and Donnie Darko, The Guilty is set to be Gyllenhaal’s third tryst with a Netflix Original, following Okja and Velvet Buzzsaw

Vivien Lyra Blair from Bird Box will be seen as Abby while Gillian Zinser is set to reprise the role of Jess. Zinser was popular for her role in Savages

The rest of the cast includes Ethan Hawke, Peter Sarsgaard, Paul Dano, Riley Keough, David Castaneda, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Edi Patterson, Bill Burr, Christina Vidal, Beau Knapp and Adrian Martinez.

What is the production status of The Guilty

The principal photography for the film began in November 2020 in Los Angeles. Given the date of release, the film should most likely be in post-production.
