Netflix has released the first trailer for the rom-com Players, starring Tom Ellis and Gina Rodriguez.
Coming to the streaming giant on February 14th, better known as Valentine’s Day, Players comes from Pitch Perfect 3 director Trish Sie. It follows the story of Mack – played by Rodriguez – a sports journalist who uses “plays” to secure a string of hook-ups.
At one point, Mack takes an interest in the war correspondent, Nick Russel, played by Lucifer’s Tom Ellis. Realising that she wants it to be more than a one-night thing, she summons her best friends to commit to a series of stunts to help the pair fall in love properly.
The first thing for Mack is that she needs to get to know Nick better and find out what he likes doing in his downtime. This sees her start hanging out at the same places as the charming journalist.
In the first trailer dropped by Netflix, we see Mack’s plan working as she and Nick look like they are heading in the right direction. At one point, though, her loyal friends get real and suggest that she might be losing sight of herself in order to win Nick’s affection.
The cast of Players also features Damon Wayans Jr as Mack’s best friend Adam, as well as Joel Courtney, Augustus Prew, Liza Koshy, Ego Nwodim, and Marin Hinkle, who all appear in supporting roles.
