Netflix releases first look at new Prince Harry sporting documentary ‘POLO’

Documenting the various chapters of Prince Harry‘s life seems to have found the perfect home in streaming platform Netflix. Alongside his pursuit of a normal life, his honesty seems to tap into something many viewers resonate with, like how he balances one of the biggest responsibilities in the world with the desire to do everyday hobbies.

His latest docu-series, POLO, will arrive on the platform later this year and will take a behind-the-scenes look at the equestrian sport, primarily at the US Open Polo Championship in Florida. The estranged royal has played polo for decades, so it is understandable why he would want to transform one of his biggest interests into a show that educates others on its practices.

A statement shared by Netflix on social media said that POLO would offer “an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at the fast-paced world of the sport,” ensuring that it would “provide viewers unprecedented access to the world of professional polo.”

To give viewers a glimpse into some of the scenes and content, the streamer released a series of new images from the show, which includes three polo players and two wielding mallets to vie for the ball. From these pictures, it seems as though the show will show the both sides to the sport, including the strain that comes with attempting to keep up with its high standards and pace.

It’s also been revealed that the Prince and his wife, Meghan Markle, will both be credited as executive producers on the project, while Markle also heads off to work on her own Netflix-billed cooking show. The two have also been attending and engaging in various charity matches, including the charity he co-founded, Sentebale, to help children and young people affected by poverty, inequality and HIV/AIDS in southern Africa.

During his recent trip to Nigeria with Markle in May, Harry also visited Lagos Polo Club, and rode at the Royal Salute Polo Challenge earlier in April. While in Nigeria, the pair supported Nigeria Unconquered, a charity supporting recovery and rehabilitation for the Nigeria servicemen and women who have been wounded in battle.

Discussing his friend’s recent show for Netflix, Nacho Figueras, told PEOPLE that Harry’s focus on and dedication to the series will be palpable. “When I see Prince Harry delve into Sentebale, it makes me want to support him and his other projects even more. I know he will do the same for this series,” Figueras said.

“Prince Harry and I have talked about polo for years. The production company is incredible, and Netflix has a huge platform to reach the biggest hearts in the world. I am happy to be involved and think this is a great opportunity for the sport,” he added.

POLO will be available to stream on Netflix in December, 2024.
