Netflix confirms release date for Harlan Coben’s next thriller
Netflix have announced the release date for the next Harlan Coben adaptation, a thriller series titled Missing You, which is set to arrive very early next year.
Coben has worked with the streaming series on a number of novel-to-series adaptations, including Fool Me Once which aired earlier this year. Starring Michelle Keegan, Richard Armitage and Joanna Lumley, the series focused on two intertwined murders. It took Netflix by storm, becoming one of the most viewed shows on the platform.
Now, Netflix is set to link up with Coben again to adapt his 2014 thriller novel and New York Times bestseller, Missing You, which pairs murders and disappearances with dating apps and long-lost loves. The series has been produced by Quay Street Productions and will span five hour-long episodes. It is set to arrive on Netflix on January 1st, 2025.
A summary provided by Netflix gives us a glimpse into the plot of the new series. It states, “Eleven years ago, Kat’s fiance Josh, the love of her life, vanished without a trace, and she hasn’t heard from him since. Now, swiping profiles on a dating app, she suddenly sees his face and her world explodes all over again.”
The summary continues, “Josh’s unexpected reappearance will force her to dive back into the mystery surrounding her father’s murder and uncover long-buried secrets from her past.” The original novel was set in the United States, with Kat living in New York, but the series will be set in the United Kingdom. It was filmed around the north-west.
The cast list for the new series has already been announced, with Rosalind Eleazar set to take on the role of Kat. Eleazar previously appeared in Slow Horses, another thriller novel adaptation. Ashley Walters, who found widespread acclaim for his performance in Top Boy, will star as Josh, Kat’s former lover.
The supporting cast includes a slew of well-known names, including Richard Armitage, who has become a staple in Coben’s cast lists. Armitage has previously appeared in The Stranger, Stay Close and Fool Me Once. Comedian Lenny Henry, Jessica Plumber and James Nesbitt will also appear in the series.
A trailer for the show is yet to be unveiled, but a series of first-look images have been revealed, providing glimpses at the cast in character. Missing You is set for release on Netflix on New Year’s Day, January 1st, 2025.
