‘Fool Me Once’ to 'Safe': 8 Harlan Coben adaptations to watch on Netflix

Fool Me Once is the latest Harlan Coben sensation. This thrilling eight-part British series has taken Netflix by storm.

Adapted from Coben’s 2016 novel by Danny Brocklehurst, the show boasts an impressive cast featuring the likes of Michelle Keegan, Richard Armitage, Adeel Akhtar, Emmett J. Scanlan, and Joanna Lumley.

Coben’s stories might follow similar formulaic writing and murder mystery tropes, but he has a dedicated fanbase who are always in search of more. If you have enjoyed Fool Me Once and have been craving for more of the same, then fret not because many of Coben’s adaptations are on Netflix, from Gone for Good to Safe.

Another Netflix adaptation of Harlan Coben’s thriller follows a common theme of Coben’s stories—the past coming back to haunt the protagonists. The Stranger explores the havoc wreaked when a mysterious stranger reveals shocking secrets. Richard Armitage, Siobhan Finneran, and Jennifer Saunders deliver compelling performances, making it a riveting watch filled with twists and turns. In Stay Close, a man’s decision to revisit his past intertwines with a woman’s mysterious disappearance. Cush Jumbo, James Nesbitt, and Richard Armitage (once again) bring Coben’s characters to life.

Another one of Coben’s novels, Hold Tight, comes alive in this suspenseful series as a family becomes entangled in a web of secrets and deception. Hold Tight stars Terry O’Quinn, David Lyons, and Nikki Reed. Safe is another collaboration between Coben and Danny Brocklehurst, which revolves around a widowed surgeon’s search for his missing daughter. Safe stars Dexter and Six Feet Under star Michael C. Hall in the lead.

Some of Coben’s work has also been adapted to non-English shows. Set in both 2020 and 1994, The Woods follows a prosecutor uncovering new evidence related to his sister’s disappearance. Grzegorz Damięcki and Agnieszka Grochowska lead the cast in this Polish series. Gone for Good is a French miniseries where a man’s past resurfaces with his long-lost brother. Finnegan Oldfield and Nicolas Duvauchelle navigate the suspenseful story.

And lastly, we have The Innocent, which focuses on a man wrongfully imprisoned. In this Spanish adaptation of Coben’s novel, Bird Box Barcelona actor Mario Casas stars along with Alexandra Jiménez and Aura Garrido.
