Netflix announces the release date for 'Inventing Anna'

Netflix has finally announced the release date for the much-awaited Shonda Rhimes series Inventing Anna. Initially penned as a 2021 release, the show is now slated for a February 2022 premiere.

After Scandal, it seems like Shonda Rhimes will continue to reign supreme on Netflix, replacing her Regency-era gallant bravado with the story of a glamorous trickster whose social popularity got her to climb the social ladder and scam people.

Based on a New York Magazine article by Jessica Pressler entitled ‘How Anna Delvey Tricked New York’s Party People’, the film will follow the journey of Anna Sorokin, a smart and cunning 28-year-old, hailing from a relatively lower-middle-class family, who adopted the name Anna Delvey to scam her friends and New York socialites and businesses of money.

After it becomes known that she is the SoHo scammer, the film will see a journalist set out with a mission to investigate Anna’s life. The series will be limited to ten episodes and will air in February next year.

With Julia Garner and Anna Chlumsky in the lead, it will be an interesting watch as we try to decode who Anna really is. The cast will also include Katie Lowes, Laverne Cox, Arian Moayed, Alexis Floyd, Anders Holm, Jeff Perry, Jennifer Esposito, Talia Mallay, Terry Kinney and Anna Deavere Smith.
