Netflix unveils 'Parasyte: The Grey' trailer

Manga fans will be delighted to hear that Parasyte is returning with a new live-action series on Netflix. Titled Parasyte: The Grey, the new show has received its full trailer ahead of its arrival on the streaming platform in April.

Parasyte first emerged in 1989 as part of Kodansha’s popular magazine, Morning Open Zokan. However, the manga, created by Hitoshi Iwaaki, snowballed through several spin-offs, adapted for animated and live-action television programmes on several occasions.

Parasyte: The Grey will return to the universe in a live-action setting, introducing new plotlines, settings and characters. Set in Korea, the latest adaptation has been directed by Yeon Sang-ho, the esteemed director behind Train to Busan and Hellbound

The new show will arrive on Friday, April 5th, and will be available to stream on Netflix worldwide. Accompanying Sang-ho on the exciting project is screenwriter Ryu Yong-jae, who is best known for his previous work on Money Heist: Korea and Joint Economic Area

Meanwhile, Jeon So-nee stars in the lead role as Jeong Su-in, who is infected by an alien parasite but somehow manages to defy the odds and maintain control of her own mind as the parasite attacks.

Elsewhere, D.P. star Koo Kyo-hwan appears in the cast as Seol Kang-woo, and Lee Jung-hyun as Choi Jun-kyung. Kwon Hae-hyo and Kim In-kwon are also listed, but their character names are yet to be disclosed.

Alongside the action-packed trailer, Netflix has issued its official synopsis, which calls on humanity to “rise to combat the growing threat” as “unidentified parasites violently take over human hosts”.

At present, Netflix has not revealed how long the series might last, nor has it revealed whether it plans to renew the series for subsequent seasons. We can assume the Parasyte: The Grey’s longevity depends on whether it is received as well as similar adaptations on the platform upon its arrival next month.
