Netflix officially renews 'One Piece' for season two

The Netflix One Piece live-action adaptation has been a runaway hit for the streaming platform. It has gained approval from critics and long-standing fans and has successfully pulled in an entirely new fan base.

One Piece has now officially been renewed by Netflix for a second season. The announcement came directly from Eiichiro Oda, the creator of the manga series, who worked closely with Netflix and Tomorrow Studios to make the show happen. It makes it more special for fans that the news came from their “Oda-sensei”.

The video shared by the One Piece channel on Twitter had Oda’s face blurred out and the telepathic snail phone conveying his message to fans.

He began by asking everyone how they liked the show, acknowledging the production team’s hard work in making it such a resounding success.

Then he thanked old fans and new, “To everyone who’s been a fan of One Piece for years, and to those who experienced One Piece for the first time, thank you so much.”

Then came the bomb news, “Two weeks after the launch, I just received some great news…Netflix has decided to renew the show!” That wasn’t all.

He even teased a new character introduction, “From here on, it seems to be the Straw Hats will need a great doctor,” before drawing out the figure of Tony Tony Chopper, Jamie Lee Curtis’ favourite One Piece character.

It will take a while to get the scripts ready, and there is no release date in sight, but this is news worth celebrating for fans of the show.
