Netflix Game Controller app has been released on the App Store

A new app, Netflix Game Controller, has recently been added to the Apple App Store, teasing exciting new developments for the streaming service.

Although the app is downloadable, there are no available games to play with it just yet. On the App Store, the company teased, “Coming soon to Netflix. Play games on your TV with the Netflix Game Controller.”

“This Game Controller app pairs with your TV and allows you to play games on Netflix using your phone or mobile device.”

Netflix Game Controller works on iPhones and iPads using iOS 15.0 and up – it is not currently available for download on the Google Play Store.

While Netflix already has some games which can be played on Android and Apple phones and tablets, this app would allow users to use their television and phone as a gaming console instead.

This company have been working on the idea for some time, with Mike Verdu, Netflix’s Vice President of gaming, discussing the plans in October 2022 at the TechCrunch Disrupt event.

“It’s a value add. We’re not asking you to subscribe as a console replacement,” he explained. “It’s a completely different business model. The hope is over time that it just becomes this very natural way to play games wherever you are.”
