Netflix have shared an official teaser for their upcoming sci-fi movie Atlas, starring Jennifer Lopez. The film is set for release on May 24th.
Earlier this year, Lopez released This Is Me…Now: A Love Story, a film to accompany her new album, This Is Me… Now. Now, she’s set to swap romance for sci-fi with Netflix’s Atlas.
Directed by Brad Peyton, the film stars Lopez as the titular character, Atlas Shepherd. When a mission Atlas embarks upon goes wrong, she is forced to put her faith in artificial intelligence. Simu Liu, Mark Strong and Sterling K. Brown all take on supporting roles.
The teaser opens with the moment the mission fails, showing a startled and bloodied Lopez desperately asking, “Do you copy?” to no reply. The clip amps up the tension with the suggestion that the future of humanity is in her hands.
The trailer goes on to tease shots of huge robots, other worlds, and snowy landscapes. “Mission control,” Lopez asks at the climax, “This is Atlas Shepherd. Can you hear me?”
Alongside starring in the sci-fi, Lopez had a hand in producing the film with her production company, Nuyorican Productions. The company’s previous projects include Lorene Scafaria’s 2019 film Hustlers and the 2022 documentary Jennifer Lopez: Halftime.
In 2021, Lopez signed a production deal with Netflix giving the company first refusal on projects by Nuyorican Productions.
