After months of brutal anticipation, Netflix has finally appeased Vikings fans by confirming the official release date of the spin-off series Vikings: Valhalla. The series is slated to premiere on February 25, 2022.
Created by Michael Hirst, all the six seasons of Vikings had gathered a huge fan following due to their wonderful setting, cinematography, gripping narrative and evocative music. A quasi-historical drama, it detailed the Viking saga comprising Norse mythology.
Vikings: Valhalla will be set nearly a hundred years after the original series and witness the near obliteration of the Vikings as the English kingdom stands steadfast against the Scandinavian raiders.
Hirst has also confirmed the supposed connection between the original series and the spin-off. He said that these subtle connections would answer a lot of burning fan questions and tie up loose ends. According to him, “everything connects in a useful, interesting, and fascinating way.”
Hirst has managed to get Die Hard writer Jeb Stuart to work on the script and be the showrunner. About Stuart, he said, “Jeb Stuart, a truly wonderful writer, will bring new storylines and a powerful visceral vision to stories about some of the most famous Vikings known to history.”
The series will involve a huge ensemble cast. Leif Erikson will be seen as Sam Corlett while Laura Berlin is set to play Emma of Normandy. Frida Gustavsson plays Freydis Eriksdotter and Leo Suter will be seen as Harald Sigurdsson.
The other cast members include Johannes Haukur Johannesson, Bradley Freegard, David Oakes, Caroline Henderson, Pollyanna McIntosh, Bosco Hogan, Karen Connel, Bill Murphy, Asbjørn Krogh Nissen and Yvonne Mai among others.
Netflix had recently taken to Twitter to release some of the first look photos from the series
