Netflix announces ‘Money Heist’ spin-off with Berlin

With the greatest heist in history almost coming to an end, Money Heist fans are probably going to bid a bittersweet farewell to their favourite show. However, Netflix has announced a new spin-off series, just a few days ahead of the premiere of the final season.

In a mass event in Madrid, actor Pedro Alonso, who played the calculative and charming Berlin in the series, announced the same.

Talking about how “happy” he was, he also expressed his gratitude to the “people all over the world” with whom he had made a connection and from whom he had received “so much love and such a memorable time”.

Talking about the upcoming spin-off, Alonso said, “We started this series walking into the unknown and we have been winning ever since. You fans are our accomplices and thank you for that.”

This spin-off series will most likely be a prequel and explore Berlin’s origin story. Alonso’s character was diagnosed with a terminal illness during the end of the first season and had selflessly sacrificed himself in the second season to let the rest of the gang escape unhurt.

Netflix took to Twitter to make the official announcement regarding how Berlin’s story would continue despite the heist coming to an end. The spin-off series has been named Berlin: A New Series and is slated for a 2023 release.

Fans are excited to wait and see if all the individual characters manage to get spin-offs of their own, especially the fan favourites like Tokyo, Nairobi, Denver and the Professor

Created by Alex Pina, Money Heist aka La Casa de Papel will be premiering the second part of its fifth and final season on Friday, December 3, 2021.
