The Gentlemen may have scored an early renewal, with Steven Knight’s House of Guinness following in its footsteps. But if you think that’s all Netflix has to flaunt, you probably missed out on another big scoop: Neil Forsyth’s Legends has joined the race for renewals.

While netizens found themselves on cloud nine with the streamer’s back-to-back greenlights for their favourite shows, Forsyth’s acclaimed crime drama, now in the mix, has clearly doubled their enthusiasm.

Premiered in May 2026, Legends is a Netflix Original crime thriller that dramatises the stranger-than-fiction true story of a group of ordinary, untrained, and unequipped British customs officers who were thrust into a high-stakes, top-secret undercover mission to dismantle the dangerous heroin-smuggling gangs in early-1990s Britain.

Tasked with halting the massive flow of drugs into the country amidst a surging heroin epidemic and political pressures of the Thatcher era, these everyday civil servants and desk-bound customs officers had to adopt fake identities and were called the “legends”. They infiltrated dangerous criminal networks in London, Liverpool, and overseas, risking their lives and sanity as the lines blurred between their real and fake lives, despite the lack of formal training in the field.

The second season of Legends will continue the story of these undercover operatives. Speaking of which, writer and creator Forsyth told Tudum, “I’m delighted to have the opportunity to tell a new story in the fascinating and unique world that Legends offers and to show just how dangerous, thrilling, and important their work became in the late 1990s.”

Led by Tom Burke, Steve Coogan, and Hayley Squires, the Netflix crime drama examines the identities of these legends as they find themselves deep in the hot waters of Britain’s notorious criminal underworld.

The debut season concluded with the legends solving a high-stakes international case and returning to their normal lives. But the normalcy doesn’t last long. In the second season of Legends, the unlikely crew is again summoned to infiltrate the underworld.

Legends joins a row of high-profile renewals, including House of Guinness, The Gentlemen, and Being Gordon Ramsay. “Our audiences loved these shows, so it is such a delight to bring them back,” Netflix Vice President of UK Content Anne Mensah says.

“To revisit the Guinness family, cook with the Ramsays, go undercover with Legends, and be At Home with the Furys. A huge thank you to the brilliant producers, actors, writers, directors, and crew behind these shows and all of our returners on Netflix – it’s an utter privilege to host these gems.”

Although the exact plot details and release window remain shrouded in mystery, the show will move into production for its sophomore season in 2027. Until then, stay tuned for more updates!
