‘Monopoly’ is getting a Netflix reality show with a $2 million jackpot
Monopoly is a game that has ended more family game nights than we could count. The game has created some serious lifelong grudges, for crying out loud. So, honestly, it was only a matter of time before Netflix looked at it and decided to make a reality show out of it.
That’s right, Netflix has officially ordered Monopoly, a reality competition based on Hasbro’s legendary board game, and casting is already open. So if you’ve spent years telling people nobody can touch you at Monopoly, here is your chance to put your money where your mouth is instead of just talking the talk.
Only 12 players will make it onto the show, and they will step into a life-sized Monopoly Town Square, where strategy, cutting deals and knowing how to read people matter a lot more than getting lucky with the dice.
Contestants will earn money and snap up properties. They will also negotiate deals and build alliances while trying to stay out of bankruptcy. Lose everything and you’re gone. Keep your little empire standing, and you’re one step closer to walking away with the $2 million prize.
You see, Monopoly’s never really been about the dice, has it? It’s about the people. The dodgy deals and the last-minute bargains. And Netflix seems to have figured out the source of drama.
Behind the scenes, the show is coming from Studio Lambert, the production company behind Squid Game: The Challenge and The Circle.
Hasbro is going all in, too. Alongside the Netflix series, it’s working on a Monopoly film with LuckyChap and Lionsgate, while also expanding other big names like Clue and a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series for Netflix.
The competition is due to land in autumn 2027. Whether Monopoly becomes Netflix’s next massive hit, we’ll just have to wait and watch.
