Mike Tyson says he’s “prepared” for boxing match with Jake Paul on Netflix
As excitement builds for the former heavyweight champion of the world, Mike Tyson, to face YouTube star Jake Paul in a boxing match live on Netflix, Tyson has reaffirmed his readiness for the fight. The ex-professional boxer and media personality has vowed to “finish” Paul, whose record, thus far, consists of ten wins and one loss.
Paul had his first fight back in 2020 when Tyson was already 53 and long since retired from professional boxing. Since then, the social media star has beaten numerous figures within the boxing ring, although many of them were UFC fighters. His only loss came in February, 2023, when he was bested by former Love Island star Tommy Fury at a high-profile bout in Saudi Arabia.
On the other hand, Tyson’s last professional boxing match took place in 2005, when he lost to Kevin McBride. Since then, the former heavyweight champion has competed in a handful of exhibition matches, most recently in November 2020 against Roy Jones Jr. The scheduled fight against Paul has been dismissed by many boxing fans, largely as a result of the extensive age difference between the pair.
Tyson being nearly 60 years of age has given this fight something of a novelty reputation, particularly after the bout had to be quickly rescheduled following health concerns from Tyson in June.
Nevertheless, Tyson recently told Jimmy Kimmel that his age is of no concern. “I’m nearly 60 and he’s 27,” he shared, “but I started Jake Paul off by allowing him to fight on one of my cards and now I’m going to finish him. I started him, and I’m going to finish him.”
Continuing, the former boxer said, “I like [Paul], but in this particular fight, he has to go. I don’t think it’s going to be an easy fight. I know this guy is going to be prepared, but I’m prepared too.” Both figures have been training extensively and sharing their training methods online. For his part, Tyson appears to be training to an impressive level, given his age.
“I’m training extremely hard,” he affirmed. “I start at 11am and I might still be at the gym at 5pm. I’ll have a small break after doing my boxing to get a massage and then I’m right into strength and conditioning.”
Fans will have to wait until November 15th to see if all that training pays off, as the match will be broadcast live to Netflix from the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
