Netflix has announced that Michelle Keegan (Our Girl; Coronation Street) will lead a new thriller series, Fool Me Once, an eight-part series based on the best-selling novel by Harlan Coben.
The actor will play Maya Stern, a widow whose husband, Joe (Richard Armitage), was brutally murdered. Soon, her grief morphs into confusion as the secret camera she installs in her daughter’s room picks up the image of a man resembling her husband.
Adeel Akhtar will star as DS Sami Kierce, leading the murder investigation, although he appears to hide his own secrets. Moreover, Maya’s niece and nephew attempt to work out precisely what happened to their mother, who was murdered a few months before.
Dame Joanna Lumley will play Joe’s mother, and Peaky Blinders‘ Emmett J Scanlan is also set to star. The rest of the cast includes Dino Fetscher, Marcus Garvey, Hattie Morahan, James Northcote, Dänya Griver, Daniel Burt, Adelle Leonce, Natalia Kostrzewa and Laura Gibbons.
The twist-filled thriller is the third collaboration between American author Coben and Armitage, who previously starred in Netflix’s adaptations of his books The Stranger and Stay Close.
Coben shared, “I’m thrilled and honoured to once again be collaborating with my über-talented partners Danny [Brocklehurst], Nicola [Shindler] and Richard. Fool Me Once will be our fourth Netflix series together, and man, it never gets old!”
He continued, “Fool Me Once is a pulse-pounder – a shocking story of how secrets and deceit have the power to bring people together while simultaneously tearing them apart. I can’t wait to see how this dream cast brings these characters to life.”
Brocklehurst, the show’s writer, added, “Harlan’s books are storytelling genius and it’s great to be entrusted once more in bringing his gripping stories to life. As always with our thrillers, expect twist upon twist and an emotional roller-coaster. Plus, the cast is phenomenal – audiences are in for a treat!”
The show is currently in production with directors Nimer Rashed and David Moore.
