Meghan Markle reveals that Beyoncé texted her after Oprah interview

In an episode of the recent series Harry & Meghan: Becoming RoyalMeghan Markle revealed that Beyoncé texted her following her interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021.

Markle explained in episode six, “Beyoncé just texted, just checking in…I still can’t believe she knows who I am. She said she wants me to feel safe and protected. She admires and respects my bravery and vulnerability and thinks I was selected to break generational curses that need to be healed.”

In Markle’s interview with Winfrey, which she gave alongside her husband, Harry, Duke of Sussex, Markle discussed the alleged concerns raised within the Royal Family while she was pregnant with her first son Archie, regarding the darkness of his skin colour.

She explained to Winfrey, “In those months when I was pregnant…we have in tandem the conversation of, ‘He won’t be given security. He’s not going to be given a title,’ and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born.”

In 2020, Harry and Meghan decided to “step back as ‘senior’ members” of the Royal Family. The pair’s recent series has become Netflix’s biggest documentary debut of all time, raking in over 81.55m viewing hours since it dropped last Thursday (8th December 2022).

The couple has been criticised for sharing personal videos and photos in the documentary. However, a statement from the couple’s press secretary read, “The Duke and Duchess have never cited privacy as the reason for stepping back. This distorted narrative was intended to trap the couple into silence. They are choosing to share their story on their terms, and yet the tabloid media has created an entirely untrue narrative that permeates press coverage and public opinion. The facts are right in front of them.”
