'Man vs Bee': Everything we know about the new Rowan Atkinson series

Netflix seems to be lately interested in insect-driven films. After the 2021 creepy French horror-thriller The Swarm, the streaming service will bring to its viewers a hilarious show starring Rowan Atkinson that will see the veteran actor being terrorised by bees.

Created by Rowan and Will Davies, with whom Atkinson previously worked for the Johnny English franchise, the 10-episode riotous series shall feature Atkinson in the lead and has already generated quite the buzz. Pun intended.

In August, during filming, the 66-year-old actor was seen sporting longer hair and strolling about Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire in a checkered shirt, grey jeans and brown loafers, sporting his signature poker face while adhering to the instructions meted out by the crew.

A legendary figure in physical comedy, the show will focus on the hilarious chaos that will ensue when Atkinson butts heads with the bees.

Ahead of its release, as we await a trailer, here is everything we know about the upcoming Rowan Atkinson Netflix series Man vs Bee

When will Netflix release the Rowan Atkinson series Man vs Bee?

Rowan Atkinson’s upcoming series Man vs Bee is scheduled to premiere globally on Netflix on June 24th, 2022.

What is the plot for the Rowan Atkinson series Man vs Bee?

The upcoming riotous series will see Atkinson as a caretaker who has been tasked with housesitting a mansion. However, he soon finds himself in a dangerous war with pestilent bees that leads to a set of hilarious situations and irreparable damage.

Most of the filming took place in London and various paparazzi images were leaked while the actors were shooting. One sees Atkinson hugging his on-screen daughter while the other sees his co-actor Julian Rhind-Tutt being escorted out of a courthouse by the police.

How many episodes does Man vs Bee have?

The upcoming Rowan Atkinson series Man vs Bee has ten episodes where each episode will have a runtime of just ten minutes. This short runtime format has been inspired by the episodes of Atkinson’s acclaimed series Mr Bean

Who are the cast members in Man vs Bee?

Currently, not much is known about the cast of the series which will most likely have a restricted set of actors due to the short episodes. Rowan Atkinson will be seen as the lead in the series.

Atkinson has cemented his legacy in the field of physical comedy as the iconic and immortal character Mr Bean which he played for almost 17 years from 1990 to 2007 in the eponymous series and films. He was also seen as the riotous spy Johnny English in the titular franchise that was directed by the showrunners of the upcoming Netflix series.

Atkinson no longer enjoys playing Mr Bean and would much rather lend over his voice to the animated version. He said, “I don’t much enjoy playing him. The weight of responsibility is not pleasant. I find it stressful and exhausting, and I look forward to the end of it.”

The cast will also include Julian Rhind-Tutt who was last seen in a small role on Netflix’s The Witcher alongside Henry Cavill, Freya Allen etc.
