Rowan Atkinson to be terrorised by bees in new Netflix show

Netflix is making a lot of insect-driven films. From the creepy French thriller The Swarm nearly making viewers lose their sleep to news about Mr. Bean, aka Rowan Atkinson, starring in a show where bees terrorise him, there is a lot to unpack.

On Wednesday, August 11, Rowan Atkinson was seen filming his new Netflix physical comedy Man Vs Bee

The 66-year-old actor was seen sporting longer hair and strolling about Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire in a checkered shirt, grey jeans and brown loafers, sporting his signature poker face while adhering to the instructions meted out by the crew.

Created by Rowan and Will Davies, with whom Atkinson previously worked for the Johnny English franchise, the 10-episode riotous series shall feature Atkinson in the lead role as a man who finds himself battling the notorious and pestilent bees at a luxurious mansion he has to housesit. Chaos will ensue in an epic battle between him and the bees with hordes of physical comedic scenes.

Atkinson had cemented his legacy as one of the most renowned and talented physical comics in the world with his immortal character Mr. Bean that he played for nearly 17 years, from 1990 to 2007.

According to alleged reports, Richard Curtis, the co-writer of the show is planning to bring back Bean on-screen in his grumpier and older format. The 64-year-old confirmed that they were thinking of bringing back “Old Bean”.

How does Atkinson feel about this?

The veteran actor has expressed his disgruntlement. “I don’t much enjoy playing him. The weight of responsibility is not pleasant. I find it stressful and exhausting, and I look forward to the end of it.”

Tired of having played the character, he also stated how he preferred voicing the character in the animated series and then in the animated film that the crew were “in the foothills of developing“.

While we hope Atkinson changes his mind and leave us in splits as grumpy old Bean, we are excited to see how he manages to fend himself against the bees.
