John Boyega would "absolutely" love to be on 'Bridgerton'

Star Wars actor John Boyega has expressed his interest to be a part of one of Netflix’s most popular Original shows, Bridgerton.

Created by Chris Van Dusen and executive produced by Shonda Rhimes, the Regency-era period drama show is adapted from Julia Quinn’s eponymous novel series. It revolves around the lives of the upper echelons of aristocratic London while taking a close focus on the romantic pursuits of the each of eight Bridgerton siblings in each book.

While the first season focused on the eldest Bridgerton daughter, Daphne’s romantic escapades with the stoic Duke of Hastings, the second season toned down on the sex scenes and focused on the slow-burn sexual tension and forbidden yearning between the eldest Bridgerton sibling, Anthony and the fierce Indian aristocrat, Kate Sharma.

The second season included a diverse ensemble, namely Simone Ashley, Charithra Chandran, Adjoah Andoh, Jonathan Bailey, Pheobe Dynevor, Nicola Coughlan, Claudia Jessie etc.

Boyega spoke up in a Q&A, talking about how he would “absolutely” love to be a part of the show. He also praised the diversity and “versatility” of the show.

“I would, I’m all about versatility. That’s what we were taught especially in drama school, we were taught about roles that wouldn’t necessarily come our way but we were still trained to try and portray it,” he said, eager to venture into new horizons.

Boyega also spoke about how he struggled to land acting jobs when he first entered the industry, before talking about the frustrations underlying his profession.

“I know how it is with those Netflix shows, when you get closer and closer, you smell the money,” he said, before adding, “That’s the frustrating thing about our industry is that we know we could get that one job and it could be like that, but unfortunately, a lot of times you come close to it and then you go back and that hurts.”

While the show will go on for eight more seasons to chronicle the love story of every sibling and has now been renewed for seasons three and four, we can only hope for Boyega to find a spot in these ranks.
