Jennifer Lopez's 'The Mother' beats 'Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery' record

Niki Caro’s cliché-riddled action thriller The Mother has allegedly smashed existing records held by the massively popular Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery and Murder Mystery 2. It was viewed by 2.8million households in the US over its debut weekend that coincided with the occasion of Mother’s Day.

According to Deadline, Samba TV measured that the Jennifer Lopez-led movie had a better two-day viewership than the Rian Johnson and Jeremy Garelick-directed sequels.

While Glass Onion garnered viewership from 2.6million households, Murder Mystery 2 was viewed by 2.4million. However, this data collated by Samba TV does not include mobile viewings. The panel used for measurement includes 3million terrestrial TVs, which is a much larger sample size compared to Nielsen’s 45,000 homes, making it a hundred times more extensive in terms of coverage. The Samba TV panel is also weighted to the US Census.

The Mother is currently at the number one spot on Netflix’s top ten list in the UK despite average reviews. The streaming platform released viewing data for the film that also features Joseph Fiennes, Lucy Paez, Omari Hardwick, Paul Raci, and Gael García Bernal, in addition to Lopez in the titular role. The Mother currently has 83.71 million watch hours. As per Netflix, Glass Onion had raked up a total of 82.1million viewing hours, and Murder Mystery 2 had clocked in 64million.

While Daniel Craig’s Knives Out sequel was highly anticipated, the Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler-starring middling comic caper series turned out to be a surprise hit for Netflix.
