Jenna Ortega displays Netflix’s Wednesday Addams transformation

After Tim Burton announced his plan to direct a  Netflix series Wednesday based on The Addams Family that included a huge ensemble cast, namely Jenna Ortega, Gwendoline Christie, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzman, Victor Dorbantu and more.

Known for his obsession with the macabre, eccentric and bizarre, Burton is set to direct the live-action comedic coming-of-age adaptation of the same, marking his television debut. The eight episodes will focus on Wednesday Addams’ school years and show her morbid obsession with death besides other adventures and escapades at Nevermore Academy.

While Netflix is excitedly announcing the expanding Addams family, the series shall take a look into Wednesday’s desperate attempts to “master her psychic ability” while dealing with the advent of new monstrous threats and solving the mystery that engulfed her parents decades back. She also has to deal with the repercussions of newly-formed relationships at the school.

Jenna Ortega, who is starring as the iconic Wednesday, recently showed off her transformation.

Talking about how this is the “most physical transformation” she has ever done, she revealed, “I cut my hair, and it’s black, and mannerism-wise, speaking cadence-wise, expression-wise, I’m trying to pull from a different toolbox this time around. I think it’s a surprise to the audience, but myself as well.”

Jenna is admittedly aware of the “pressure” building on her to reprise the role of such a beloved and legendary character. Talking about the “several paths” one may take to approach it, she says that this would be the first time Wednesday would be seen in her teenage avatar.

Ortega added, “Some of her harsh mannerisms may come off as hilarious when she’s younger, but as you get older, how much of that can you get away with? Or how do you keep that at the forefront of her personality without people growing to dislike her or find her annoying?”

It will not be too long before we get to see Wednesday Addams as the series is set to drop on Netflix sometime in 2022.
