Is ‘The Four Seasons’ returning for season three?

The Four Seasons returned to Netflix with its sophomore season, bringing fans the much-needed update on the gang – Danny, Claude, Kate, Jack, Anne, and Ginny – following Nick’s tragic death in a car crash in the debut season. While the eight-episode instalment had the crew struggling with existential crises in more ways than one, it also has viewers worrying whether the show could return for future instalments.

The second season of the hit comedy series, based on Alan Alda’s 1981 movie, picks up right where the debut season left off after Nick’s traumatic death when his girlfriend Ginny announced that she was pregnant with his child.

Although the second season of The Four Seasons launched viewers into a rollercoaster ride with baby discussions, Danny and Claude’s move to Italy and then Philly, and of course, Anne’s house-sitting decision, Netflix has yet to renew the show for a third season. But is that a call for upset? Well, not yet!

It has barely been a minute since the second instalment of The Four Seasons premiered globally on Netflix. As a result, the streaming giant is likely to take some time before renewing the show for a third season, after meticulously analysing viewership numbers, completion rates, and other crucial factors that influence a show’s continuation.

That said, even without the official greenlight from the streaming platform, the audience has reasons to believe that The Four Seasons is indeed returning for a third run, thanks to a special cameo in the season two finale. But in case you’ve not made it to the season finale yet, here’s a fair warning for the spoilers ahead.

The closing minutes of the series adaptation brought a major change for Anne, who travelled to Italy to visit Danny and Claude, alongside Jack and Kate. But when Beverly fell sick, and Danny and Claude decided to move back to Philadelphia to take care of her, Anne decided to stay back and house-sit for the pair indefinitely.

While the season has been particularly hard for Nick’s ex-wife, as she heads out to observe her new surroundings in an attempt to forget Mark Brett, she runs into a charming stranger, portrayed by none other than David Tennant. It may be just an ordinary cameo, but the appearance makes the audience curious about his potential involvement, provided Netflix rolls out future instalments.

The most intriguing part of the sequence is that Tennant’s character introduces himself as Gianpiero, a name Anne previously mentioned to Brett while detailing her fantasy life in Italy. Could he be the fantasy she’s on the lookout for, or is it just a pure coincidence? In any case, it surely is food for thought, and we need to hold our horses until more information surfaces.
