‘Heartstopper’ set for Netflix feature film finale

Smash hit teen romance drama Heartstopper is set to conclude with a feature film for Netflix, in place of an expected fourth series.

The announcement of the movie conclusion was made on April 22nd, three years to the day since the show’s first series premiered in 2022.

Its lead stars, Kit Connor and Joe Locke, are set to executive produce the project, while Wash Westmoreland will come on board as director.

Following the love of teenage sweethearts Nick and Charlie, the original graphic novel series by Alice Oseman was a huge hit when it was first adapted for Netflix, making huge names out of its young ensemble cast.

However, due to the actors’ rising popularity and declining viewership numbers for the show’s latest third series, fans have waited six months since its most recent finale to find out what direction it would head in.

The new film will follow the next tests they face in their relationship, as Nick leaves for university and leaves Charlie to go long distance.

With Oseman having published five volumes of the franchise and the series having covered the first three, the film will adapt volumes four and five while the author works on a sixth volume, which she hopes will be released prior to the movie.

Oseman told Deadline: “I am completely overjoyed that we will get to tell the end of the Heartstopper story. I’m so grateful to everyone who has worked hard to make this possible and to the incredible fans of Heartstopper for your patience and passion. I cannot wait to bring this story to a magical conclusion.”

See-Saw Films will be helming production of the project, with filming set to begin later in 2025 for a slated release in 2026.
