French hit ‘School Life’ to return with a sequel series on Netflix
Netflix recently addressed a long-running rumour mill about the 2019 French original movie School Life, which is now officially set to return as an eight-episode series set in the same world as its cinematic predecessor.
The Garcia Lorca middle school in Saint Denis, which was the centre of chaos and drama in the original movie, will open its doors to another batch of students.
Co-directed by Grand Corps Malade and Mehdi Idir, the French movie grossed $14.2million on a reported budget of $5.10m, with close to 2m tickets sold when it was released in French theatres in late summer that year. The film hit Netflix shelves in April 2020, making itself right at home in most international territories.
So, now that the speculations have been confirmed, for those curious, here’s a comprehensive overview of everything known so far about the School Life sequel series, AKA LA VIE SCOLAIRE.
What is the plot?
The upcoming School Life sequel series, titled LA VIE SCOLAIRE, revolves around Samia, the vice principal of Garcia Lorca Middle School in Saint Denis, who looks ready for another school year. However, when a new head of school enters the frame, barely agreeing with her perspective on academics and education, the issues of an out-of-control third-grade class hover over her head like black clouds. To make things worse, the personal setbacks are no less, meaning expect some unravelling in Samia’s bingo card this school year.
Who is in the cast and crew?
As it turns out, the entire adult cast of School Life will appear in the forthcoming follow-up eight-episode series, including Zita Hanrot as Samia, whose Netflix credits also include The Hook Up Plan and Ad Vitam. Comedian Alban Ivanov will reprise his role as Dylan, Soufiane Guerrab as Messaoud, Moussa Mansaly as Moussa, and Redouane Bougheraba as Redouane. Newcomers appearing in the series are Jennaïa, Esther Gajos, and Marie-Julie Baup as Édith Piaf.
Behind the cameras, Mandarin through TV division Mandarin Television and Kallouche Cinéma return for the series. Mehdi Idir co-wrote the episodes with Mickail Yildiz, Clara Bourreau, Thomas Keumurian and Mathieu Pichard-Rivalan. Idir, Yildiz, Bourreau and Pichard-Rivalan serve as co-creators, with Idir also directing the entire season on his own.
